Rhetoric (High) School 9th-12th Grade
The PCCA Rhetoric or high school years (9th-12th) are an exciting time in a young person’s life, and we are amazed to observe their growth. Central to this growth is the personal attention and encouragement the students receive from the college of faculty. In addition, our students contribute to this dynamic with their varied interests, gifts, and abilities.
Sharpening Minds, Strengthening Voices
The Rhetoric phase could be summarized by the word "expression," since students are taught to use the knowledge and skills they have learned in the earlier stages—Grammar and Logic. Students receive instruction and training that is designed to assist them in becoming effective communicators of the knowledge, beliefs, and perspectives they hold. The Rhetoric phase of the education model at Providence promotes healthy debates and discussions in every subject. Students are taught to defend their point-of-view, both in oral and written form.
Equipping Students for Excellence in Learning and Leadership
Our course offerings are designed to promote the success of students by challenging each one to achieve. The faculty work with students and parents to help each student maximize his or her learning potential and to mature socially and spiritually. Our commitment to small class size allows teachers to know their students’ individual abilities and interests. The Christ-centered atmosphere of the classroom and supportive environment of the school allow students to focus on learning during these developmental years which will prepare them to succeed at the finest Universities and beyond.
Just as Quintilian's famous definition describes the perfect orator as a "good man skilled in speaking", Providence students are taught to be eloquent in their speech and to be respectful of the opinions of others.

In the Rhetoric years, Providence English students do more than read the great books—they enter the conversation. Through rich dialogue and critical analysis, they engage timeless ideas from thinkers like Plato, Virgil, and Aristotle, evaluating how these works shaped history, culture, and modern thought.
History as a Journey Through God’s Story
At Providence, History is more than memorizing dates—it’s a journey. Rooted in the classical meaning of historeo—“to visit”—students explore the past through great books and firsthand accounts rather than just textbooks.
Pursuing Truth Through Number and Reason
At Providence, math isn’t one-size-fits-all. Rooted in the UMS model, our program empowers students to move at a pace that fits their learning—whether they’re accelerating or solidifying foundations. With a focus on mastery and excellence, students are equipped not just for college, but for life beyond the classroom.

What to Expect
The high school years at Providence Academy are a time of growth, challenge, and preparation for the future. Our Rhetoric School equips students to think deeply, communicate effectively, and engage the world with wisdom and conviction. Through a rigorous classical curriculum, students move beyond simply learning facts—they analyze, articulate, and defend their ideas through written and oral expression.
Foundations in Classical Thought & Geometry
Freshmen explore ancient literature, history, and philosophy, laying a foundation in critical thinking and cultural understanding. In math, they expand on algebra through geometric reasoning and logic, developing problem-solving skills essential for future coursework.
American Voices & Scientific Discovery
Sophomores dive into American literature and chemistry, learning to express ideas clearly while conducting hands-on scientific investigations. European history provides context for how worldviews, culture, and governance have shaped society today.
Sharpening Analysis & Exploring U.S. History
Juniors strengthen writing and communication skills in advanced composition courses while studying the roots of American government. In math, students move into pre-calculus or trigonometry, preparing for college-level problem-solving and analysis.
Leadership, Rhetoric & College Readiness
Seniors refine their rhetorical and literary skills while studying economics, government, and political theory. With options for AP science or college-level chemistry and physics, students are equipped to lead, reason well, and transition into higher education with confidence.
