A Joyful Beginning to Lifelong Learning
The Grammar (or elementary) years at Providence in K-5th grade are a time of fun, joy, and exploration as students make new discoveries each day with both their classmates and family. Students begin with the phonetic recognition of letters and sounds of the English language that become the foundation of wonderful classical literature.
Where Young Minds Flourish and Stories Come to Life
As you walk the hallways, you can overhear the classrooms that are often filled with the chanting, laughing, rhyming, singing voices of excited children who are learning new concepts that will lay the foundation of their education.
They learn poetry, folktales, and stories of the past; they also write the stories of the present and the future with creativity and innocence. When Providence students leave fifth grade, their knowledge is bountiful, and their hearts are full of memories that will last a lifetime.
Building family connections
As at traditional five-day schools, grammar school involves teachers, students, and parents. However, the roles of Providence teachers and parents are unique. The teachers bring a new world to students with an exceptional teacher’s heart to reach the hearts of children and convey passion for the subjects they teach. This takes place in a cutting-edge schedule of classes.
Also, particularly unique is the “co-teacher” role of the parent. On satellite campus days during the school year, parents can be found in their home continuing the teaching process with their children. During on-campus school days, parents are welcome to be involved with activities, field trips, or recesses; some parents have been seen throwing a football with students on the playground. We are a family ministry, and parents feel an open door to be a part of this wonderful time in their child’s life.
The grammar years of ABC’s and 123’s usually seem to go by fast for parents, but there is great pleasure for all in these rich school years at Providence Academy.

Kindergarteners begin their literacy journey with a structured phonics program that builds confident, fluent readers. Math is taught one grade level ahead, using hands-on activities to develop number sense and problem-solving skills. Faith is woven into daily learning through Scripture memorization and Bible stories, creating a Christ-centered classroom where children grow spiritually and academically.
Building a Love for Reading & Numbers
First graders expand their literacy skills through an engaging phonics program that integrates reading, writing, and grammar, while also developing a deeper understanding of math through hands-on activities. Students explore biblical truths by memorizing and singing Scripture, reinforcing their faith through interactive lessons that bring stories from Genesis to Revelation to life.
Exploring New Worlds Through Story & History
With classical literature like The Boxcar Children, second graders transition into independent reading while strengthening their writing and grammar skills. They embark on a journey through ancient civilizations, studying nomads, Egypt, and early societies, while their math instruction moves from hands-on exploration to deeper conceptual understanding. Science lessons introduce classification, ecosystems, and early scientific thinking, sparking curiosity about the world.
Unlocking Imagination & Curiosity
Third graders immerse themselves in literature, developing comprehension and critical thinking skills through stories like The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe. They explore the history of ancient Greece and Rome, learning about democracy and early civilizations, while science lessons cover the human body, ecosystems, and God’s intricate design in nature. Math instruction focuses on multi-step problem-solving and fluency in foundational skills.
Diving Deeper into Knowledge & Discovery
Students refine their mathematical reasoning as they advance in multiplication, division, and fractions. In history, they explore the Middle Ages, Renaissance, and Reformation through primary sources and engaging discussions. Science shifts to hands-on experiments that explore energy, heat, motion, and machines, encouraging inquiry-based learning and real-world application.

Fifth graders sharpen their writing and analytical skills through structured literary analysis and expository writing, using books like Where the Red Fern Grows and The Witch of Blackbird Pond. They study early American history, from the age of exploration to the founding of the colonies, gaining insight into the principles that shaped the nation. Science lessons cover light, energy, and minerals through experiments that foster curiosity and a love for discovery.
